Know before you go

Balance Payment for direct bookings:

Per our booking terms and conditions. We will require a credit card to be on file, however you will not be charged until you receive our invoice and email back your acknowledgement that we may process your credit card.   Should you wish to make alternative payment arrangements please email.

Car and Boat transfers to the resort:

If you haven’t already done so, please email us your domestic flight arrival and departure details for Taveuni or Savusavu. and we will organize a boat and car pickup for you.  We will arrange our local driver to meet you when you land. Travel time to the resort from Taveuni Airport is 15 minutes by car, followed by 20 minutes by boat. Travel time to the resort from  Savusavu Airport is 1 hour by car (on partly unsealed road), followed by 20 minutes by boat. Our boat transfers will need to be paid directly to us either prior to arrival or on departure. however you will need to pay your driver directly (Taveuni airport to Jetty FJD 30, Savusavu to Jetty FJD 130. Don’t worry Taveuni and Savusavu are very small airports so our driver won’t miss you but should you need to contact us enroute please note the Resort  phone +(679) 9920051 or +(679) 9920046

We value knowing a little more about you to best plan for your stay. If you haven’t already done so, please feel free to email us with any special dietary preferences or other items you’d like us to note

Pre-booking Experiences:

There is no need to book any of the experiences offered by Sau Bay Resort in advance (except weddings or renewal of vow ceremonies).


Our in house Dive Shop allows us to plan dives around you. Please let us know a day before and we will plan our dive according to the tides and weather conditions.  Please do not forget to pack your certification card.

What to Bring:

  • We recommend bringing ‘wet’ shoes such as flip flops, crocs, reef shoes (suitable for wearing in the water), these are handy for wearing on the boats. We also recommend old hiking shoes/sneakers (some of the hiking can be quite muddy).
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen (preferably reef friendly), as well as all of the usual holiday items (hat, camera, etc) and all medical items you may require (there is no pharmacy nearby) A small medical kit is advisable – plasters/sunburn cream/aqua ear/antiseptic powder/headache tablets
  • Diving certification card.
  • There are travel plug adapters (USA to AUS/NZ) plug in each cottage. If you have a lot of devices that you may want to use/charge at the same time you may like to bring extras (usually easy to pick these up at the airport or pharmacy).Most electrical items are duel 220/110 but if you are concerned please bring a power converter
  • We have complimentary snorkel gear but if you have your own favourites then you are welcome to bring those.
  • Dress at Sau Bay is casual. Light fabrics, golf shirts, short-sleeve shirts, summer dresses, sandals, t-shirts and shorts. Bring a sweater or wrap for the winter months (June – August) and also useful for outdoor dining in the evenings.  As we offer a laundry service keep packing to a minimum.
  • Gifts for the local village are always appreciated; school items, reading books for children, tooth brushes etc. – please no lollies; dentists are hard to get to.
  • There is no need to bring a hairdryer (one in each cottage) Beach towels and towels for diving are also

Phone and Internet:

We offer complimentary wifi in the Raintree Vale at Sau Bay Resort. Unfortunately, the internet in Fiji is not as fast and reliable as more developed parts of the world. We ask that you refrain from watching videos on your facebook, youtube, or Instagram .

Payments at the resort:

We are unable to provide change or currency conversion as there are no banks nearby-FJD and USD are accepted. Anything purchased at the resort can be added to your final invoice and settled with credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard ; credit cards have a 5{4e166116b0a045c281b23045fc8aa195b4a44e5901fcf8b0726e2040a6ce4747} service fee.

Village visit:

For guests who would like to make a village visit please have Fijian cash ready if you would like to make a donation or a purchase of a local souvenir, as we are not able to add such payments to your invoice at the resort. When visiting villages modest dress is appropriate and women must cover their shoulders and knees. Please remove  hats and sunglasses upon entering the village in respect of village customs.


Please remember that unless your international flight was booked all the way through to Taveuni or Savusavu that your luggage allowance on the domestic flight will be 15kg per person. The charge for excess baggage is usually around FJD$8 per kilo. We recommend packing your essentials and a change of clothes as well as your swimmers in your carry-on luggage just in case your luggage should be delayed (very rare) so that you can carry on enjoying your holiday.

Travel Insurance:

We very strongly recommend travel insurance for your travel and dive insurance if you are diving..


Nationals from countries considered visa-exempt including the US, Australia, NZ, UK, Canada, China, Hong Kong SAR, are issued a 4 month tourist visa upon arrival as long as they have:

(i) a passport that is valid for 6 months from the date of arrival in Fiji

(ii) return or outbound tickets

(iii) entry/re-entry visa to the return or outbound country

(iv) evidence of sufficient funds for your stay in Fiji (if requested)
